Tran Thien Vu - Global Citizen Program in Malaysia

Hah, that’s what I’ve told my friend some months ago, while we were preparing for Xchange …

The day I came to Malaysia, everything was so strange, so new. I thought that I could easily … fall down V_V. Thanks to the help of two AIESECers from AIESEC UPM, one of them was my interviewer, I can be acquainted with everything here quickly. They told me how to buy a train ticket (the electrical train), how to exchange the money, etc … At first, I felt a little bit confused but after that, everything is okay, hehehe.

And when I came to work, everything … wasn’t as I expected from the beginning !. In my Job Description, I have to teach English, Mathematics, Science and many subjects for the children here. But when I showed up, they changed my work and they told me that they have enough teachers and local volunteers to do this (what???). Oh god, why???. Then, Mr.Siva Balan, head of this shelter home had a discussion with me. He told me I have to be flexible, I have to change my thinking. And at the end of the discussion, he gave me a work: I would be the supervisor of this shelter home (hah) …

My work was take care of the children here, do everything with them: eat, sleep, play, watch movie, teach them how to learn something (some subjects). The children, they’re so mischievous and sometimes they made me feel angry :)))))))) … but not too long. And I was also their Download & Convert Center =))))))). Want to know why?. Because they have a computer room (I was also given the work IT Specialist by Mr.Siva) with many equipments, especially are the music players and they had a big speaker. When they hold a party, they would ask me to download the music from Youtube or some websites and convert them to MP3 format. These were easy tasks, just in a few clicks and types ^^. Not only Download & Convert but also Movies Center here :))))))). They usually watched movies at the weekend when they had free time. All of the movies I used to show them are in High Definition and had subtitles ^^. I ‘ve learned how to be patient, how to have happiness with these children, how to have new friends …

Goodbye Malaysia, goodbye Agathian Shelter Home. I will never forget you. You will always be in my heart, forever.

Go for it
