Phan Doan Kieu Trang - Global Citizen Program in Indonesia

Our ECOTOURISM Project had 17 EPs (2 included me from Vietnam, 1 from China, 1 from Singapore, 1 from Thailand, 1 from Germany, 3 from France, 1 from Poland, 1 from Egypt, 1 from Morocco, 1 from England, 1 from Scotland, 1 from Brazil, 1 from USA

Like some other EPs, I began my exchange trip with because I would take the journey on my own in a Muslim country, the religion of which is quite different from Vietnam; my parents did not feel really secured about an organization run totally by students like AIESEC… At the same time, I was so and decided to seize this valuable chance in such a new environment to change myself, to try acting in a different way…

and 1 from Mexico). There were more Westerners than Asians among interns which made me sometimes . Honestly the language barrier and difference in expressing opinions did make me feel less confident in the first few weeks and hard to get close with all the EPs. However, 17 EPs from many different countries and continents, different religions (Buddhism, Catholic, Christian, Muslim) brought us . We chatted with each other about our countries, our religions. We feel like we had friends all over the world.

About the activities in our project, our main work was visiting tourism sites, taking pictures to make reports with our own suggestions to the government; going to the village to collect rubbish, make a change to local people’s awareness about environment; going to a high school to conduct workshops related to ecotourism… . They are all cute and friendly. It recalled me my high school time and concurrently I had the feeling of helping them more open and confident when using English and care more about environment and ecotourism. Also we have other activities to such as learning Sundanese culture, practicing traditional dance and musical instruments, cooking traditional food.
