Huynh Mai Huong - Global Citizen Program in Cambodia
My project is CEL. The first day I came to Cambodian, a aiesecer picked me up and took me to the guest house and then he left me alone.and I though what was happening, I was alone in a strange country and the service I met did not understand english ... at that time I was very scared I called my mother and she said come back to VN , find a reason and tell them to comeback immediately.but then I thought, I must overcome all difficulties because this is my choice.The next day I met the other eps from many different countries (...) and especiallyVietnamese friends bcuz we r the first Vnmese Eps discover Cambodia J.Some days later I was very shy, quiet, sometimes I did not understand people were saying . and I told people that maybe I'm not good at English with everyone here so hope everyone could understand and then they smile and talked with me, after that even though I pronounced wrong or whatever, I was still trying to communicate to talk more with them.
Everyday in class is really fun, all eps were divided into groups and had to prepare our topic before class.My group had 2 diffirent eps from china and Taiwan. At class , we shared our culture, traditional songs and play traditional games… I was very excited and my students were very friendly. They led me to visit everywhere in the city : market,museum , universities…students were very kind , they also hold the farewell party for all EPs.
Learning and working over nearly a month here, I have learned a lot from the experiences of other EPs as well as students in Cambodia. Before that I was a passive, quiet and unconfident, but after familiar with the environment here I feel more active . I try to take part in more activities with students here,to keep pace with friends (EPs),to expand myself , to be more forcible in front of crow and to learn how to develop my language skill. . I improved my social skills in a group discussion and group work .I recognized it's the program for me to be provided with powerful learning experiences. Working abroad through program , I had chances to challenge my worldview.It is not just the absence of the natural bonds with home but also the opportunity to stand by oneself,to face the day to day challenges outside, to question my own thinking, the qay things are or the way things work , both at personal and professional level. I got to learn a lot, a complete change of attitude and understanding of how i want to pursue my life after challenges, learned new cultures and perspectives, understanding diversity and striving to boost the change ,the world is full of opportunities and i need an open mind to find them.So this is an opportunity for me to take as many new learning things as possible, to discover any other doors that may just open.
